Animal Crossing: New Horizons May Day event guide

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can celebrate May Day from April 29 to May 7.

To participate, head to Resident Services and speak to Tom Nook. He will give you a May 1 ticket to join a limited-time May Day Island Tour. Take the airport ticket and you will fly to an island with a hedge maze.

How does the May Day maze tour work?

There will be tools, crafting materials and fruits hidden in the maze. To get through the maze, you’ll have to craft more tools and eat the fruits at the right time to get rid of obstacles like rocks and trees. To make the challenge a little trickier, you can’t bring anything with you. You can only use the items you find in the maze to complete it.

The maze is pretty easy, but it’s worth keeping these important tips in mind:

  • You can smash rocks and lift trees with your shovel once you eat a fruit.
  • There’s a crafting station halfway through the maze. You will need enough materials to craft tools like ladders (which you can find in the maze).
  • Small pits only allow you to jump straight through them, but there is always a way to get to the other side.
  • If you mess up or get stuck, use your NookPhone and use the Rescue Service app to be escorted back to the start and reset the island. (If you leave the island, you can’t come back!)

With a little perseverance, you should be able to get there in just a few minutes. If you want to earn some extra money, be sure to collect the Bell vouchers scattered around the maze. They are worth 3,000 Bells each. (But if 3,000 Bells doesn’t appeal to you, feel free to ignore them and head straight for the end.)

What rewards can I get for completing the May Day Maze?

At the very end of the maze, Rover – a cat character who has made appearances in previous Animal Crossing games – will be waiting for you. He will give you Rover’s Briefcase, a piece of furniture covered in travel stickers. If you have completed the event in previous years, you will get Picture of the Rover Instead. The reward is mailed to you once you return to your island.

The ticket and tour are only redeemable once you’ve collected your loot, and that’s all there is to it. Even if there’s only one thing to do for this event, it’s nice to see a familiar face again. We don’t know what this means for Rover, or if he will return in a future event.
