It’s been over a decade since Firth last teamed up with the producing duo behind See-Saw Films to The King’s Speechwhich won four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role for Firth. Ground Meat Operation could potentially garner similar rewards with Firth as the face of the film and Madden at the helm. The 1998 director’s film Shakespeare in love also won Best Picture.
Other than the titular deception plan at the forefront of the Ground Meat Operation trailer, the reveal of Simon Russell Beale as Winston Churchill is also noteworthy. Some famous portrayals of the British Prime Minister in recent media, such as Gary Oldman in darkest hour and John Lithgow in Season 1 of The crown. Beale is a slightly lesser-known but equally accomplished actor, so it’ll be interesting to see how his performance stacks up. Only time will tell when Ground Meat Operation premieres in select theaters May 6 and premieres May 11 on Netflix.
