We’re already gearing up for Easter this year, and we’ve prepared all kinds of fun and easy Easter craft ideas for kids to make at home or in the classroom.

This adorable little chicken is an easy arts and crafts idea suitable for kids in kindergarten and up, if you simplify it a bit or help with a few steps, it will also be a good project for older kids in kindergarten . You can widen the paper strips and make the feet less detailed for those who are just developing their scissor skills.

Easter Chick Paper Crafts for Kids

How to make a paper Easter chick

We love working with paper strips, this project is a spin off of our super popular paper strip peacock craft (also see this paper strip sheep as if you need more Easter ideas)

What do you need:

  • white construction paper for the base (green or blue are also fine, you can really use any color)
  • yellow paper (plain printing paper or construction paper)
  • orange paper (construction paper or plain paper)
  • wiggly or googly eye stickers
  • scissors (you can also use a paper cutter, it’s very handy if you cut the strips for children)
  • glue

You can also cut the grass out of green paper and glue it under the chick as well.

Step by step instructions

Cut the strips of paper. We cut ours about the width of a regular sheet of paper (letter/A4 size) in length and they were about a “finger” wide.

Cut a decent number, we think we used about 8 for each wing.

Cut a circle shape out of yellow paper. This will be the body of your little chick.

Glue this circle on the sheet of white paper (or the color of your choice).

Take the paper strips and make small loops of paper – glue the ends of the paper strip together.

Make the loops of all your strips of paper. Let the glue dry.

Take a loop, apply glue to the end of it (where you glued the two ends together), only one side…

And stick it on your Easter canvas :). Position it on the left or right side of your chick’s body.

Glue all the strips of paper together, forming the wings (a candy-like creation).

You can even layer the strips of paper to give your chick even more volume.

Cut the legs out of orange paper.

Glue the legs to the chick’s body.

Also cut off the beak and glue it to the chick.

Add a pair of eyes.
