MCU Fantastic Four Should Be Directed by Sam Raimi, Says Bruce Campbell
Bruce Campbell thinks that Spider-Man and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi should helm the MCU Fantastic Four reboot. For nearly a decade, one of the Marvel properties fans have wanted to see integrated into the MCU is Marvel’s First Family, the Fantastic Four. However, like the X-Men, the film rights to the Fantastic Four were, for the longest time, owned by 20th Century Fox. Following the 2015 reboot that got critically panned and became a box office bomb, Disney ended up acquiring Fox, which gave them the rights for the Mutants and the Fantastic Four.
While the MCU has continued to flesh out the Avengers-based universe with several heroes and villains, the X-Men and Fantastic Four are on their way. Even though no solo projects for the X-Men have been definitely set, a Fantastic Four reboot is in the works, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige as an executive producer. Despite having it set for Phase 4, no release date was ever set for the reboot. Initially, Spider-Man trilogy director Jon Watts was set to helm the latest reimagination of the popular heroes. However, years after the initial announcement, Watts ended up exiting Fantastic Four this year, as Marvel Studios is looking for someone like Sam Raimi to take up the directing gig.

Following the report of Marvel Studios searching for a Raimi-like director to tackle the Fantastic Four, one of the director’s collaborators has chimed in with his thoughts. Campbell, whose body of work includes a lot of Raimi-led projects, shared on Twitter that if Marvel Studios is interested in someone like him, why not get the actual director for it? Check out Campbell’s comment below:

Raimi is no stranger to the superhero genre, as he directed the three original Spider-Man movies with Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. Campbell did cameo appearances in the whole Spider-Man trilogy as various characters. In addition to the Spider-Man trilogy, Raimi recently entered the MCU through Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which has already become a box office and critical success. While it was brief, Campbell had another memorable cameo as a street vendor of Earth-838, and he also appears in the second Doctor Strange 2 post-credit scene.
Given the good relationship Raimi already has with Marvel Studios after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it wouldn’t be a stretch if he actually did end up helming Fantastic Four. Being someone that not only does superhero films well but also ensembles, Raimi would be a fit for a project that involves these specific characters. However, with a Doctor Strange 3 more than likely to get greenlit, it’s possible Raimi may get eyed to helm the next installment, which would make him unavailable for Fantastic Four. At this point, given the loss of Watts, Fantastic Four may have to be pushed to MCU Phase 5.
