Minecraft Fan’s Texture Pack Warden Adds New Horror To Wild Update

Minecraft’s Warden hostile mob, officially introduced to the game with The Wild Update, has been made even more horrible in a fan’s custom texture pack. It’s a common occurance for players to create their own texture packs, and often, they tend to treat hostile mobs with terrifying redesigns.

Minecraft’s notorious Ghasts, ghost-like flying monsters that reside in the Nether, are often being reworked into even more disturbing creatures by fans. One crafty player, for instance, decided to retexture Ghasts in Minecraft into flesh-toned floating maws with a set of similarly colored tentacles beneath them. The result was reminiscent of Stephen King’s Langoliers but with human-like teeth. Weirdly, Ghasts looked more terrifying this way. At the same time, Redditors came up with a few dentist-related jokes, mocking the creatures for their bizarre exterior.

As if Minecraft’s new Warden enemy weren’t horrifying enough in its default design, Redditor FishyMint shared an alternative version of the hostile mob from their Mythic texture pack. The player has taken advantage of an increased texture resolution, which allowed them to add extra details to the creature’s exterior. The mob acquired a more menacing, nightmarish look complemented by a second set of jaws located under the monster’s open rib cage. According to FishyMint, retexturing Warden in 64x resolution was a tough job. Despite the overall high quality of the redesign, the player feels that some parts of the custom skin look rough and require additional refinement. Those interested in a close encounter with the custom Warden in Minecraft can download the texture pack from CurseForge.

Wardens might be among the most spectacular additions to Minecraft as part of The Wild Update, but there’s plenty of other stuff for players to explore. For some reason, Mojang had to cut features from Minecraft‘s The Wild Update, causing a flow of criticism from the community. Fans expected a long-requested overhaul of birch forests and swamps, but none of these improvements made it in yet. On top of that, the developers got rid of fireflies, depriving the game of such an immersive little detail.

FishyMint’s attempt at retexturing Minecraft’s Warden, along with Redditors’ enthusiastic response to the unique design, clearly shows that the creature is on its way to becoming one of Minecraft‘s most iconic hostile mobs. And while the monster’s custom texture looks creepy and intimidating, it is worth remembering that the Mojang team is responsible for the creature’s existence and the original terrifying design. Judging by how pleased the community is with the addition of Warden, it feels like Creepers might soon be dethroned by a worthy contender in the category of the most frightening mob in Minecraft.
