My Hero Academia Reveals The Mineta Secret No Fans Ever Wanted To See

Shonen manga and anime is often rife with female fanservice, and My Hero Academia is no exception to this, although it is much less tame than some other series. Mineta often clamors for this sort of fanservice, so it is somewhat ironic that the “fanservice” presented in this chapter is of Mineta. This both subverts the idea of fanservice by revealing parts of a character that most readers emphatically do not want to see and also making readers who see themselves in Mineta confront how they would feel if they were objectified.
While at first glance Mineta’s butt being included in this chapter may seem off-putting and unnecessary, further contemplation reveals it to be a brilliant commentary on one of the major criticisms of the Shonen genre. As the series is wrapping up soon, it makes sense that Horikoshi would include this in Todoroki’s flashback, as he likely won’t have many further opportunities to include such details as this final arc becomes more intense. Thus, while fans may not have wanted to see Mineta’s backside in the final moments of Todoroki and Dabi’s confrontation, this was the perfect place for My Hero Academia to include it.
