Obi-Wan Kenobi Fan Art Highlights Young Leia’s Similarities to Padme

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi

A new piece of Obi-Wan Kenobi fan art highlights the similarities between young Leia and her biological mother, Padmé Amidala. Star Wars returns to Disney+ with a show starring Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reprising their Star Wars prequel roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader. The series has just hit its midway point, releasing three episodes already with the last three remaining to be rolled out.

Set a decade after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi sees the titular Jedi Master in hiding on Tatooine following Order 66. It effectively establishes how much Obi-Wan has lost, as he is forced to lay low and resist the urge to help the oppressed to survive under the Empire’s rule. Simultaneously, he also secretly keeps an eye on young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, but that all changes when he is forced to leave the sand planet following young Leia Organa’s abduction. Obi-Wan is initially hesitant, but after Bail Organa’s pleading, he eventually takes on the mission, sending him on a treacherous road to return Leia to Alderaan.

There have been several memorable moments during Obi-Wan and Leia’s team-up thus far. But arguably one of the best bits so far comes in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 2, when the Jedi Master compares the Alderaan princess to Padmé. This inspires a new piece of Star Wars fan art from @uziartonline showing the noble Naboo leader looming over her daughter. Check out the image below:

In Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3, the subject of Padmé is more explicitly tackled. Knowing that she is adopted, Leia asks Obi-Wan about her biological mother after she sensed that he knew her. While the Jedi Master doesn’t name her, it’s heartbreaking to see him talk about her knowing that he still feels extremely guilty about what happened to Anakin Skywalker. To make things worse, Leia wonders if Obi-Wan is her biological father, and he answers no without delving deeper into the mystery. Little did he know that later in the same episode, he would face Darth Vader for the first time in 10 years.

When Obi-Wan first referred to Padmé, there was some confusion over who he was talking about, as some were convinced he was speaking about Duchess Satine Kryze, who also fit the description of a noble leader. But now, it seems fairly clear that he was reminiscing about the senator from Naboo. This way, the comparison makes more sense; after all, Leia is Padmé’s daughter. At this point in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Obi-Wan and Leia have already separated, as the Jedi Master took on Darth Vader while the girl was apprehended by Reva, and it seems like there won’t be time for talk the next time they cross paths.

Obi-Wan Kenobi airs Wednesdays on Disney+.
