Sean Connery’s Personal James Bond Car Up For Auction At Over $1.5M

Former Bond actor Sean Connery’s personal James Bond car has been put up for auction at over $1.5 million. The Scottish actor played James Bond in the character’s on-screen debut in 1962’s Dr. No. Connery then starred in five more James Bond films, making his final appearance as the character in 1983’s Never Say Never Again. Connery died in October of 2020, at the age of ninety.

Throughout the years, over two dozen James Bond films have been made. Seven different actors have portrayed the leading character, which was most recently brought on screen by Daniel Craig, who finished his run in the role with 2021’s No Time to Die. Connery was not only the first but perhaps the most revered of all the Bond actors. After his 2020 death, countless tributes were made to Connery in honor of his career and stellar depiction of agent 007. Connery’s Bond was also responsible for introducing audiences to the character’s love of cars, with Bond’s iconic Aston Martin DB5 first appearing in 1964’s Goldfinger

Now, Connery’s own James Bond car is being auctioned by his estate at over $1.5 million. The 1964 Aston Martin DB5 will be put up for auction at the Monterey Jet Center on August 18th, according to consignor Broad Arrow Auctions. The company’s Instagram post also explains a “significant portion” of the sale of Connery’s Aston Martin DB5 will directly contribute to the Sean Connery Philanthropy Fund. Though the classic car will be auctioned for a hefty price, the donation to the Sean Connery Philanthropy Fund will honor the actor’s legacy. While most widely recognized for his portrayal of James Bond, Connery was also an avid philanthropist during his life. Connery used his movie star salary for good, donating millions of dollars to charities to help improve others’ lives in his home country of Scotland and beyond. Hopefully, the car auction will be able to capitalize on this James Bond nostalgia for good, honoring the legacy of the man who popularized the car itself.

The iconic Aston Martin DB5 will almost certainly be able to sell for a hefty price to a wealthy Bond enthusiast. Six decades after the release of Dr. No, moviegoers still attend Bond films in swathes. With Craig leaving the role, audiences eagerly await the announcement of who will play James Bond next. It’s clear they are still as excited as ever about the famous superspy.
