Skyrim: Top 10 Funniest Random Encounters, According To Reddit

Orcs usually hang in their strongholds, worship Malacath and follow their own traditions. They are explicitly independent and do not get involved in any of Skyrim‘s political conflicts or matters. That is why jbrav88 was quite surprised when he found “a group of Orc bandits wearing Imperial Armor pretending to be soldiers to extort a toll.”

It is quite hilarious to think that the orcs thought anyone would fall for their disguise, and the absurdity of the situation has made many of the players laugh. Not all encounters are as funny and harmless, so when Dragornborns bump into such goofs to lighten up the mood in a deadly world full of hostile creatures, it is definitely appreciated.

9 Skooma Dealer

A deleted user commented “I met an elf who tried to sell me moon sugar and skooma. I questioned him, and he started attacking me…I killed him, and took his skooma and moon sugar from his dead body…” Skyrim may be one of the few places in the world where a drug dealer can be killed and looted by his potential clients.

It’s funny to think how these skooma sellers scan people who are walking by in order to decide whether they should approach or not, and choose a strong-looking warrior, with multiple weapons, that is wearing one of the best light armor sets, and is accompanied by an armed companion to try to sell their drugs and confront them.

8 Stolen Hat

Redditor B1ackMesa  shared “there was a random Argonian just chillin out in the snow. When I dismounted Shadowmere he approached me and said that I dared him to steal a hat from someone (apparently while I was drunk) and owed him 10,000.”

Who knows, maybe this is one of the things the Dragonborn did when he was drinking all night with Sam Guevenne in the quest “A Night to Remember” and just forgot to address it later. It can be added to the amusing crazy list of things the player did that night, but the funniest part of this encounter is how if you pay for the hat, the argonian gives it to the Dovahkiin just to reveal that it actually costs one piece of gold.

7 The Farmer And The Giant

There is a farmer that can be found on Skyrim’s roads that is followed by a cow. If interacted, the farmer will explain he is offering the animal to some giant for them to leave him alone. A deleted user decided to follow him only to witness how the giant attacked him.

This is funny enough but the Redditor also explained how “when it happened there was a glitch in the game and when the giant swung his club to hit the farmer, the farmer flew straight up into orbit. He never came back down.” It’s always comical to see a giant dramatically smash somebody into the air, so for that to be the conclusion of this poor farmer’s journey is sad, but also hysterical.

6 Lydia Not Carrying Her Burdens

Her quote lives rent-free in fans’ heads, but although she is sworn to carry your burdens, apparently in napalmcuddles game, she forgot to carry her own inventory items. The Redditor recalled, “Once, I came back to my house pretty late at night, and Lydia was sitting at the kitchen table eating bread in her underwear.”

Unless another sneaky thief pickpocket her items out of her inventory and took her armor, there is no explanation for this very funny and random encounter. There are always hilarious glitches in Skyrim but this one is quite special as it does not feel like a mistake, and it seems like Lydia was truly feeling at home in the Dragonborn’s house.

5 Flying Mage

Of all the most hilarious random encounters, many of the Redditors talked about a certain mage that can be found in the wilds of Solstheim. User hijinksobserved commented “I enjoyed the mage in dragonborn DLC who was trying to learn to fly. “I did it! Wait, how do i stop? Stop!” splat”

The encounter is simple yet effective when it comes to making players laugh. Although the scene may seem meaningless, xXBassMasterXx cleared up that “This is actually a reference to the guy in Morrowind who created that spell. The same thing happened to him.” And this proves Bethesda really knows how to put qualitative easter eggs on its games.

4 Mage Challenger

MrManicMarty had an odd yet fun encounter with a mage challenger. She shared “This guy ran up to me in Whiterun “You call yourself a Wizard? Let’s duel!” Told him to piss off, but Yu-Gi-Oh wouldn’t take no for an answer and attacked me.” This fight might not seem as funny if the Dragonborn loses when the player forgot to save while traveling, but it’s quite humorous for a stranger to come up like that and attack out of nowhere.Redditor McBraas added a really funny comment and said “You get points for using Yu-Gi-Oh as a snarky insult”. Which seems like a proper dialogue for a conversation that is already very dramatic and comical. It would only add amusement to the scene, so maybe a mod should add it to the game.

3 Wabbajack Lady

After completing the quest “The Mind of Madness” and getting one of the rarest weapons in Skyrim from Sheogorath players may find a specific old woman running around the roads of Skyrim. FoxyZach mentioned “I love when the crazy lady runs up to you when you have the wabbajack begging to be wabbajack’d.” and he then added how after using the staff on her “she turned into a bunny and ran away.”

The Wabbajack is one of the best unique weapons in Skyrim. It has such crazy and random power already that this encounter is not the only funny one the staff provides to players. Using it as a last resource in a deadly battle hoping for an enemy to turn into a bunny, but then getting it transformed into a powerful dremora, is one of the common hilarious things that can happen when using it.

2 Falling Necromancer

Lundix shared “I don’t think mine was actually supposed to happen […] Anyway, a necromancer just dropped out of the sky. No suspicious loot or anything, just aargh. I guess something went wrong when he was spawned and he found himself 400m up in the air.” Most of the time, as in with this encounter, Skyrim‘s glitches can provide the funniest sights that catch anyone off guard.

A lot of work was put on Skyrim to be one of Bethesda’s best games, but it is almost impossible for it to not have some failures. Luckily for players, these ones are quite entertaining. The same thing happen to Redditor CapgrasX13 who shared “I once saw a mammoth fall from the sky to its death. It was more depressing than hilarious, but I definitely laughed.”

1 Magic Enthusiast

For TheJack38  his favorite funniest experience is when “a mage pops up as a random encounter and asks you to show him some tricks with magic. You then put up a shield, he casts a few spells on it and then runs off to apply to the college”. This scene does not only causes a few chuckles, but it is also very heart-warming.

There is something about these encounters that make the player feel more like they’re in a real-world and that their actions affect other characters’ lives. It may be silly to be moved by such an encounter, but Skyrim does such a good job creating immersive details that players get their mood boosted by these sorts of things. It’s believable that the mage was guided to a better future, and that sure puts a smile on most players.
