Spring Baking Championship: Molly Yeh Will Open New Restaurant

Molly Yeh, who hosts Spring Baking Championship and stars in her own cooking show Girl Meets Farm, has announced that she and her husband will open a new restaurant named after their daughter. In 2014, Molly married Nick Hagen, a fifth-generation farmer, and moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota. On March 30, 2019, the Spring Baking Championship host Molly gave birth to their daughter, Bernadette Rosemary, nicknamed Bernie. Bernie is named after Nick’s great-great grandfather Bernt who started the Hagen farm in 1876, and Molly’s great-grandfather Bernard who emigrated from Hungary. On February 20, 2022, their second child, Ira Dorothy, was born.

Molly’s show Girl Meets Farm has been a Food Network staple for nine seasons. On the show, Molly cooks from her and Nick’s home and farm, on the North Dakota/Minnesota border. Molly says, “My food is a delicious mix of my Chinese and Jewish heritage and the taste of the Midwest.” In addition to Girl Meets Farm, she has also hosted Food Network shows such as Spring Baking Championship season 8 and the 2021 ice cream challenge show Ben & Jerry’s Clash of the Cones. Molly is also a cookbook author and food blogger.

In an Instagram post, Molly revealed her and Nick’s latest venture, writing, “surprise, we’re opening a restaurant!!!!!!” The restaurant is called Bernie’s, named after their daughter, and will open in Fall 2022. Molly explained that last year, she and Nick “took over a beautiful historic space on the banks of the red river, where we plan to celebrate the cuisine of east grand forks.” The Red River forms most of the border of Minnesota and North Dakota, where Molly’s hometown is located. According to the Grand Forks Herald, the restaurant will be located in the historic Whitey’s Underground building in East Grand Forks.

The video begins with Molly and Nick smiling and holding hands with Bernie in the restaurant space. Both the interior and exterior of the restaurant are shown. Nick is later seen holding Ira in a clip. There are also several clips of food being cooked in a kitchen by a chef. The Spring Baking Championship host’s post concludes with a message to her future patrons, saying, “we are so excited to welcome you in and feed you! follow @berniesegf for updates as we develop the menu, hire staff, honor the ghosts of this historic space, and create new stories of our own.”
