We’ve got something for everyone, whether they know Pikachu is an adorable yellow creature or they think it’s the latest COVID variant. We’ve got hit action, comedy, horror with spooky towns or hungry werewolves, and even old-school fighting competitions. We keep this list updated as new movies come out too, Uncharted starring Tom Holland is the newest addition to this particular hall of fame.

Our rules for the best video game movies are firm but fair. They should be based on a specific game – not just in a fictional game world like Free Guy or Ready Player One – and do justice to their subject matter. Whatever you like to play, there’s going to be a movie on this list worth putting down the controller and scooping up the popcorn instead. We have comedy, horror and gory deaths. Enjoy!

Here it is: Best Video Game Movie: The minute we found out that Ryan Reynolds – Deadpool himself – would be voicing the fuzzy little yellow guy, we knew Detective Pikachu would do the Pokemon brand justice. The film centers on 21-year-old Tim Goodman, who just wants to find his father, missing private eye Henry, and teams up with Pikachu in the process. Cue plenty of CGI, plenty of sentimental family stuff, and – most importantly – enough jokes to tickle a Snorlax.

Goosebumps director Rob Letterman is in charge of an eclectic cast that includes pop singer Rita Ora, Bill Nighy, Ken Watanabe and DJ Diplo, but it’s the love and care that goes into the Pokémon world. as a whole that stand out the most.
