TMNT: Last Ronin Gives Michelangelo Epic Revenge for His Fallen Brothers

Michelangelo the final battle against the Foot Clan has arrived, as the Last Ronin the epic revenge of his fallen brothers is finally told. In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin #5 by IDW Publishing, The Last Ronin faces off against Oroku Hiroto as the New Shredder and the Last Turtle engage in a bloody battle that has spanned more than a decade and a half for Michelangelo. It turns out to be a harrowing affair that ends with multiple deaths and a new direction being forged for those who survive.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is a five-issue miniseries that takes readers to a dystopian future where Michelangelo is the sole survivor among the original Turtles. After being suicidal and wanting to end his life in a world without his family, Michelangelo became the Last Ronin to get revenge on those who took them, namely Oroku Hiroto, the son of Karai, the former leader of the Foot Clan. After working alongside Casey Jones Jr. and April O’Neil, Michelangelo’s final fight begins.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin #5 by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, Ben Bishop, Peter Laird, Esau Escorza, Isaac Ecorza and Luis Antonio Delgado, tensions rise as Oroku Hiroto suits up in his own Shredder armor as he continues his quest to kill the last Ronin. After taking down Hiroto’s army and a particularly tall soldier, Michelangelo calls on the villain to face him as a man. The pair engage in a bloody battle, as Michelangelo sustains injuries from Hioroto’s Shredder nanotech armor. Despite being beaten, Michelangelo does not relent but is stabbed after being tricked that his opponent relented. Finally, Michelangelo manages to kill Hiroto in an electrifying explosion, taking revenge for the deaths of his brothers – but it comes at the cost of his own life.

Michelangelo bleeds with Casey Jones Jr. by his side as he leaves his master Splinter’s journal. He reveals that the most important lesson of all was to “know peace” as he succumbs to his wounds. Upon his death, a touching scene shows Michelagenlo reunited with his brothers, Master Splinter and Casey Jones, who died in battle against the Foot Clan. Meanwhile, a look into the future shows Casey Jones Jr. continuing her training from the journal and is seen trying an experiment to create her own version of the turtles. It’s a fitting end for all.

Michelangelo’s death carries significant emotional weight, as he finally finds peace after exacting revenge for the deaths of his brothers. Taking down Hiroto while delivering Master Splinter’s journal to Casey Jones Jr. completes his quest while laying the groundwork for future stories featuring the new hero. Ultimately, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin sticks the landing of its final in what turns out to be a beautiful punch of a story. Michelangelo’s Last Stand is epic and tragic and completes the beloved turtle’s journey of redemption.
