Wild, questionable rumour suggests Batman: Arkham Crisis could be WB Montreal’s open world DC game

The Batman rumor mill continues to spin as the internet churns out new details about the Dark Knight’s next step in video games, whether or not there’s any factual accuracy behind them.

The latest gossip comes (supposedly) via a QA tester for WB Montreal chiming into a Discord server, as Arkham-focused YouTube channel The Flix Fix first reported. This tester claims – among other things – that WB Montreal’s next Batman game is called Batman: Arkham Crisis, centering on the superhero comic arc Court of Owls, will be released in the fall of this year, features a map of the open world nearly twice the size of Los Santos from GTA 5, and includes co-op multiplayer functionality.

Batman: Arkham studio finally confirms one thing about its next game: “It’s not Superman”

Suffice it to say, this all sounds highly suspicious, but we know – thanks to LinkedIn – that WB Montreal is working on at least an open-world game based on the DC Comics licensewhich could very well be the AAA”EU4 [Unreal Engine 4] open world based gamethat another studio developer mentions in his job description. Are this and Batman: Arkham Crisis the same thing?

There’s no way to verify anything at this time, but rumor (which I emphasize is hardly supported by observable evidence) indicates that Warner Bros apparently plans to announce its next Batman game. in March 2019, just a month away. This timeline means we’ll know if this rumor is valid soon enough, especially since a 3D animator for WB Montreal called this same game in progress “Project 2019” last year.

We’ve reached out to Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for comment on this latest development and will update this story if we hear anything more, but don’t get your hopes up. The publisher has been quiet about its Batman plans since the release of Batman: Arkham Knight, although another developer from WB Montreal recently teased a Court of Owls game in a tweet last year. If only the world’s greatest detective was here to help us figure it all out…

With or without Batman, here are all the big new games of 2019 that we know so far.

There’s no way of verifying any of it right now, but the rumour (which, I stress, has little substantiation in any observable evidence) states that Warner Bros apparently plans to announce its next Batman game in March 2019, just one month away. That timeline means we’ll know whether this rumour has any validity to it soon enough, especially as a 3D Animator for WB Montreal referred to this same in-the-works game as “Project 2019” last year.
